Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area camping
If you’re interested in exploring the national park and are looking for a spot to camp, check out the Afterbay and Grapevine campgrounds in the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area on the shores of Afterbay Lake.

General info:
-All sites are first come first served
-Campers must self-register and pay at each campground, look for the Iron Ranger and a billboard with instructions on the right as you enter the camping areas
-$15 per night fee ($7.50 with Senior Pass) Self service fee envelopes are located at the Iron ranger. Cash or check only, make checks to Afterbay Campground Service
-There is a RV dump station with bathrooms and potable water located just past the turn off for Afterbay Campground
Afterbay Campground:
-Located on the South shore of Afterbay Lake
-27 sites total, all can accommodate RVs or Tents
-Open year round
-All sites are handicapped accessible although it is easier to get to the toilets from sites 18-27 and the two sites adjacent to the toilets are marked as handicapped sites
-Mens and Womens composting toilets are handicapped accessible
-There are several hydrants with potable water behind sites 1-17 and across the road from sites 18-27 (seasonal)
-All sites have fire rings and picnic tables
-All sites are back in, sites 1-17 are longer and can better accommodate large RV’s than sites 18-27
-There is a dumpster for trash (seasonal)
-No RV hookups
-Driving directions: Come into Fort Smith and go straight through town, keep going straight and the campground is 1.2 miles past town on the right
Grapevine Campground:
-Located on the North shore of Afterbay Lake
-14 sites total, sites 1-8 are RV or tent, sites 9-14 are tent only
-Open year round
-RV sites are back in
-All sites are handicapped accessible, have fire rings, and picnic tables
-Tent only sites have a parking area and you have to carry your gear a short distance to the sites
-Mens and Womens composting toilets are handicapped accessible
-There is a dumpster for trash (seasonal)
-No RV hookups
-No potable water
-Driving directions: Come into Fort Smith and go straight through town, once past town take the first right, the campground is 1.6 miles on the left
